Case Load
Mason Black’s case load varies from basic motor vehicle accidents to sophisticated fraud and indemnity disputes. This diversity makes for an ideal learning platform as the varying complexity of the work ensures a challenging workload for solicitors and law clerks of different experience levels.

Most of Mason Black’s staff commence at a junior level, many while at university. They learn the basics of Litigation and gain general exposure to the legal environment. After mastering the fundamentals, staff steadily accumulate greater knowledge by being exposed to the more complex work of the firm.

Working Environment
Mason Black is proud of its dynamic culture and steadily building reputation which flows from enthusiastic team of young professionals.

The Mason Black environment is less formal and less hierarchical than traditional, larger firms. Staff are treated with respect and the environment is close knit and supportive. Strong social links are often maintained outside of work.

The firm’s offices are managed by young professionals who have been in Insurance Litigation for most of their careers. They are highly competent and strongly committed to building Mason Black. A key component of the firm’s culture is a supportive training environment which assists new staff to become effective team members as quickly as possible.

Employment Benefits

Staff are expected to enjoy a good work/ life balance. At Mason Black, there is no culture of late nights and frequent weekend work. Out of hours commitments are infrequent and budget expectations are not onerous. The expectation is that staff will put in a solid day’s effort and then get on with the business of living.

Practicing certificates for professional staff are funded by the firm and salaries are competitive. Incentive Schemes further reward those who exceed performance targets.

Further Education
Mason Black invests heavily in continuing legal education and professional development. The firm funds a number of further educational programs including but not limited to:

  • The annual CLE requirements for all staff,
  • External seminars and conferences,
  • Selected post graduate studies, and
  • Professional training courses in specific legal disciplines relevant to the firm’s business.

 

In the case of law clerks who are still attending university whilst working, the firm provides:

  • Paid study leave for exams each semester,
  • Paid leave for “on campus” course components of the College of Law program,
  • Possible reimbursement of fees for those staff members who commit to stay with the firm for a period of time after completion of the course, and

 

Support Staff
A strong support team is essential to Mason Black and support staff are closely integrated into the overall structure of the firm.

Ongoing training is provided and internal promotions are preferred in order to offer real opportunities for personal development. A number of support staff have commenced legal studies with the assistance of the firm and graduated to full fee earning roles.
