History

In 1991, a current Solicitor Director of Mason Black, Leon Sholl, established the law firm Sholl Nicholson in Melbourne. Initially Sholl Nicholson’s major client was the debt recovery firm of Recoveries Corporation. As the practice grew, a number of major insurance companies became clients and the need for representation in NSW and Queensland increased. Eventually in 2003, Leon Sholl decided to create a new firm in Sydney to handle the growing volume of work from major insurers. This firm was Mason Black Lawyers.

The early success of Mason Black led to a decision to extend its coverage in order to better serve corporate clients on the east coast of Australia. Mason Black commenced operation in Brisbane in early 2006 and in Melbourne in mid 2006.

From small beginnings, Mason Black has grown rapidly. The firm has over 40 staff with its largest office being in Sydney. While maintaining a close relationship with Recoveries Corporation, Mason Black’s client base now include several of the major insurance companies on the Australian business register.
